Students can intern for any for-profit or non-profit firm to gain work experience. Students may pursue internships at MSU as long as they are not supervised by another student.
Students must have a grade of 2.0 or higher in JRN 200 to qualify for JRN 493 credit.
Required action:
Please read all the instructions for admission to class: There is a requirement for your potential supervisor to complete.
The deadline to apply for the Full Summer Semester 2025 is May 29, 2025.
Late Enrollment:
The enrollment deadline for JRN 493 (listed above) is separate from the university's late enrollment fee deadlines. Per University Policy, students who register for any course after the semester begins will incur a $100 late enrollment fee.
In order for students to be enrolled in JRN 493 at the start of the semester, students must:
1. Complete this form.
2. Have their supervisor confirmation the internship responsibilities, weekly hours, and start/end date with the JRN Internship Coordinator at [email protected]. 3. Ensure there are no enrollment restrictions on their account (e.g. enrollment holds).
Students are responsible for tracking the status of their application. This late fee may be avoided if the student is already enrolled in another course for that term by the start of the semester. For late enrollment deadlines and associated fees, please refer to the Academic Calendar at https://reg.msu.edu/roinfo/calendar/academic.aspx.
Credit limits:
A maximum of 6 internship credits count toward a JRN degree. As an example, if a student completes 7 internship credits then they will need a total of 121 total credits to complete their degree. Please contact your Journalism advisor if you have any questions.
